About the television

A television lets your survivor watch broadcasts, most importantly the early-game Life and Living channel skill shows that grant carpentry, cooking, foraging, and other XP boosts during the first in-game days. In base planning it's a temporary early-game asset placed wherever your character can sit and watch before the broadcasts end.

Placement & defense tips

  • Set the TV up on day one in a room you'll be in often, since the Life and Living skill shows only air during the first several in-game days.
  • Place it within view of where your character stands or sits so you actually catch the broadcasts while doing other tasks nearby.
  • Keep it powered: in the early game grid power still works, so a wall outlet location matters before the electricity shutoff.
  • Pick an interior, secure room rather than a street-facing one, so watching shows doesn't put you next to an exposed window.
  • Once the skill broadcasts end, you don't need to prioritize the TV's spot, so don't waste a prime defensive room on it long-term.

Choosing a variant

  • There's a single TV type here; its value is almost entirely the early Life and Living skill XP, so getting one running quickly matters more than which set you pick.
  • Since the benefit is time-limited, don't expend effort hauling a heavy TV to a far base before the broadcasts expire; use whatever set is closest and powered first.

Common mistakes

  • Ignoring the TV early and missing the limited-time Life and Living skill XP that's gone after the first in-game days.
  • Setting it up after the power shutoff, when there's no electricity to run it without a generator.
  • Watching shows in an exposed room near windows instead of a secure interior spot.

Frequently asked

How does a TV help my character?

Watching the Life and Living channel's skill shows grants XP in skills like carpentry, cooking, and foraging during the early game. The boost is most valuable in the first days before the broadcasts stop.

When do the TV skill shows stop airing?

The Life and Living skill programs run only during the first several in-game days, so tune in early. After that window the shows no longer provide that XP.

Do I need power to watch TV?

Yes, the TV needs electricity, which the grid provides until the in-game power shutoff. After that you'd need a fueled generator to run it.
